First and foremost congratulations on being asked to be a Maid of Honour!  It's a true privilege and will no doubt be a wonderful experience for both you and your best friend.  Here's just a few questions you might need to ask yourself first before embarking on what might be a life changing experience.

Will You Be Able to Make Time?

Being a Maid of Honour is more than a simple wedding title, it involves an important range of duties in the lead-up to the Bride’s big day.  Amongst other engagements they'll be a Bridal Shower and Hen Party to both organise and ensure run as smoothly as possible, you have to know when committing to becoming a MOH that you can devote the time necessary.
There’s nothing worse than accepting the Bride’s offer, but being unable to accompany the Bride through her wedding journey every step of the way. Ask yourself the all important question; will you be able to dedicate the time, outside of work and home commitments?

It's Not All Fun and Games... Can You Deal With the Stress Too?

As mentioned, there is a lot to plan and manage as an MOH. Can you cope with the added stress of organising important events? Although the journey towards creating your Bride’s perfect day will mostly be a wonderful bonding experience, there are bound to be manic moments! Can you plan parties and get-togethers that encompass all the Bridal party’s demands, without panicking or worrying the Bride? As the designated support for the bridal party, you must make sure you can deal with the stress calmly and positively! One things for sure, you do not want to be the source of your Bride's stress!

Can You Lead the Other Ladies?

Alongside providing support for the Bride, the MOH’s duties are ensuring the bridesmaid’s are fully informed of the wedding plans. Do you have a leader spirit within you? Can you stand your ground to ensure the Bride has the best possible experience and remains stress free? If this means firmly telling others that certain events have to be organised in a certain way, you must be able to fulfil this role!

Will You Be Prepared For When Things Go Wrong?

An important consideration for committing to being a MOH is to know that certain situations are bound to arise when things may go wrong! So, prepare to be a shoulder to cry on, a valuable friend and a trusted advisor to ensure the Bride is always smiling and positive despite little mishaps. When the Bride’s perfect dress is not available or she is struggling with who to invite and what food to provide, your job is to make sure she knows its not the end of the world and when there is a will there’s a way!

Will You Be On Top Form On the Big Day?

Alongside all the planning, the wedding is of course the Bride’s biggest moment, and you must be a lending hand throughout the day to night. You have to ensure the Bridal party’s hair and make up is running smoothly before the ceremony, guests are seated accordingly for the reception, the dance floor is filled and everyone is having a fantastic time.  Of course you can let your hair down and party with the guests, but always be aware the Bride’s enjoyment is your number one priority as MOH!

Will You Be A True Friend Through to the End?

It may be a far bigger commitment than you first realised. From planning the big day and choosing the Bride’s dream dress to holding her bouquet throughout the ceremony and seeing her off on the perfect honeymoon, the MOH is there for each beloved moment. It is important to know you’ll be able to listen throughout the worries, provide a support through any concerns and laugh and smile ’til the very end!
